The way the racers will travel is dictated by the sign that appears, either low on the screen for the bottom route or high on the screen for the top route. The next example has two potential pathways for the racers to travel: going up the ramp, over the floating platform and down past the mini-ramp missing the first ramp completely and going off the little ramp at the end and off the screen at the top. The racers will always travel in this pattern. This makes the second platform safe and the first ‘hole’ safe. However the racers will not hit the second floating platform and will instead go under it as they will be slower. The racers will go off the ramp and through the platforms meaning they are not safe either. There is no mud on this version of the stage and only one way that the racers can travel as illustrated by the arrows. The hit player will bounce off at an angle. Fighters can battle on the floating platforms and knock people around between the ramps. There are also three identical ‘ramps’ that are evenly split apart. The example above has two floating platforms as opposed to the one in example A. Now i am going to talk about four other examples of how this stage could work based on it’s layout. They will be in the 8-bit style like the assist trophies as most of the level takes after the original game rather than 64 or World Rally.Īs I said above, the design of the level is randomly generating and the first picture was an example of one way it could be done. As for the racers style they come in 4 colors: Red, Purple, Green and Yellow. All of the racers will go the same way so players do not have to worry about racers covering the entire course. This will keep players always on their toes but there will be a sign that the racer is coming in the form of an flashing exclamation point sign as you can see in some of the drawings. Unlike Mario Circuit (Brawl) these riders can take multiple paths depending on the level layout. They can be hit and knocked away but it does not permanently remove them. Like with Mario Circuit (Brawl) the racers can come in from the side and damage the player. You can jump high enough to jump out of it but not high enough to avoid the second obstacle: the racers. They walk slow and their jumping height is severely lowered. When a fighter is stuck in the mud they can no longer run. In the original Excitebike it slows the racer down and that is what it does here. There are two stage hazards on this level. In terms of how it looks it does not take the retro design rather, it looks like Excitebike 3D or Mario Kart 8. the stage has a randomly generated layout. The above image is just an example of what it can be however as, like Mario Kart 8 or Tortimaer Island. The stage is of average size and has walk-offs. The key i am using in all these pictures is that: Red: solid walls and ground that cannot be passed through at all Green: a wall or platform that cannot be interacted with directly (you pass in front of it or through it when contact is made) Blue: the part players interact with on the contact-less areas (the part of the platform you can stand and fight on as well as drop through) Black: the stage boundaries/screen limit. It also borrows and idea from Brawl’s Mario Circuit level which i will cover in a moment. The Excitebike arena takes many element from both the game Excitebike as well as the Mario Kart 8 track. However, i believe that the Excite series could easily have more of a showing in the next Smash Brothers title and to show how i present: the Excitebike Arena! In melee and Smash 4 there was a trophy and in Brawl we got an Assist Trophy but that has been it. With all this said, the Excite series has had a mix of representation in the Super Smash Bros. Most recently the series was represented in the DLC for Mario Kart 8 showing that it is still on Nintendo’s mind even to this day. While the Excite series is not a series that has disappeared from Nintendo’s line-up (like Ice climber or Urban Champion), having a game in 2009 called Excitebike World Rally on the Wii. One of Nintendo’s classic titles and a game that many people seem to enjoy and instantly recognize is Excitebike.
